The WMB has been invited to perform at the 2017 Midwest Band and Orchestra Convention at McCormick Place West in Chicago, after preparing an application and submitting video and audio recordings from our 2016 season.
For those who are not aware, the Midwest Convention is an international event in December, bringing in approximately 17,000 musicians from around the world, from all 50 states and over 30 countries. Of special note this year is that Midwest had more applications to perform than in any other single year of their 71 year history.
The WMB was accepted in 2012 and had a wonderful performance in front of thousands, and became eligible again this year after a mandatory 5-year waiting period.
This honor for the band is second to none, simply put. To be distinguished as one of the finest bands in the world not only once, but twice, in the shortest possible eligibility time frame, is astounding. Very few other musical organizations can boast of this honor. Almost all other musical organizations who submit recordings have months of preparation time as well, and many recordings to choose from. The WMB recordings came from one day - our Edman Chapel performance in August.
We hope you will spread the great news, and encourage you to secure your audition time as soon as possible. After this great news gets out, the audition times will fill very quickly. All regular members of the 2017 band will have first choice as to whether or not they want to perform at December. Those who perform will receive free admission to the clinic, and will receive a stipend for extra rehearsals and the performance. Details coming in the summer.
